NIWB Volunteers are Hooked on Fishing Clinics!

“Thanks for sponsoring the fishing clinics this year. They were well-organized and fun to join in. I hope NERR will continue them next year and you can count on me to volunteer!” Bob Ciminel, a loyal volunteer for the Inlet and Bay Stewards (the NIWB NERR Friend’s group) said this as we wrapped up our last Family Fishing Clinic for the winter. The partnership between the SCDNR and NIWB NERR is strong and not going anywhere so don’t worry Bob, as we reel in the new year, we plan to host plenty of Family Fishing Clinics in 2022!

We couldn’t thank our volunteers enough for their hard work and dedication this year during our Family Fishing Clinics. Our volunteers hosted over 70 fishing clinic participants and wracked up over 105 total volunteer hours just this year! Species caught include; Croaker, Red Drum, Oyster Toadfish, Pinfish, Lizardfish, and Black Drum.

“I have never seen so many happy faces when participants catch their first fish at the North Inlet Estuary!” “Our volunteers are just as happy to lead this educational program.” said Hayley Fournier, Education Specialist for NIWB NERR.
