Adopt-a-Stream Training

South Carolina Adopt-a-Stream is a volunteer monitoring program where participants learn to monitor the health and water quality of their local waterways. Certified volunteer water quality monitors help our state by collecting data on waterways that may not be regularly monitored otherwise. After this workshop, you will learn the methods of measuring physical and chemical measure of water quality in tidal saltwater creeks using provided equipment, how to enter and access data into the statewide database, and how to select a site to adopt.  As a certified volunteer scientist, you will have the chance to impact water quality in your community by providing valuable data about freshwater streams that you care about.

This class is a hybrid virtual and field training. The introductory and background material will be covered though a live zoom seminar on Friday, May 9th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Registrants will be email the link to the seminar. An in-person field training will be held on the following Friday, May 16th, at Huntington Beach State Park from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Volunteers must attend both sessions and pass an exam (open book) to become certified.
