The biggest threat to native plants is their invasive counterparts. Water hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes) is an invasive species impacting the waters of the Waccamaw River. While it may look pretty in a pond, it can be a real nuisance when it escapes into our natural waterways where it outcompetes native plants while clogging the tributaries and swamps of the river.
